This can happen after the winter months when you haven’t been using the AC. Guaranteed Auto Air & Repair can inspect your vehicle’s air conditioning system and repair it. There are common reasons why the AC will blow hot air. Here is what those reasons are for your information. Don’t worry. You’re in good hands at our auto service shop in Rockledge.
Compressor Malfunction
As we just mentioned, you don’t use your air conditioner during the winter. Consequently, this can affect how well the compressor operates. The compressor takes the refrigerant gas and turns it into a liquid. It also circulates this liquid through the air conditioning system. If the compressor has not been used in months, it is more inclined to malfunction than if you use it all the time. Consequently, if the compressor is malfunctioning, you may not have any liquid refrigerant circulating through the system.
Condenser Damage
The condenser doesn’t have the best luck. It is located directly behind the grille. Consequently, this opens the condenser up to abuse from dirt and road debris. The condenser takes the liquid refrigerant and cools it off after it has circulated through the system. You must always have cold refrigerant in order to have cold air. If the condenser vents are clogged by dirt, or if the condenser is damaged by road debris, it will be unable to cool off the liquid refrigerant and you will end up with hot air.
Electrical Problems
Electrical problems can also cause the refrigerant to remain hot. The condenser also uses a fan to help it reduce the refrigerant’s temperature. If you are vehicle’s air conditioning system is experiencing an electrical malfunction, the condenser fan may fail to work. When this happens, hot refrigerant is circulated through the air conditioning system and you end up with hot air in the passenger cabin.
Low Refrigerant
Finally, it’s an excellent idea to have your air conditioning system inspected once a year to make sure there is plenty of refrigerant in the system. You can lose refrigerant in two ways: through evaporation or fluid leaks. If the air conditioning system does not have enough refrigerant in it, the air will be lukewarm or hot as it flows through the vents.
